The Everest Rockstars arrive at EBC (Everest Base Camp)

March 13, 2012

They have done it! They are at EBC. They got slammed by a full blizzard , the temp was -20 with a wind chill of- 30, the snow was very heavy and the trip took them nearly 6 hours. All survived but are totally wiped so are staying up at Everest base camp another night and hope to walk out tomorrow.

    Yabba Dabba Doooooooooooooo!

Crack the top of a coldie and celebrate boys.
    You all deserve it. CONGRATULATIONS!
Stay warm, rest up and slow and steady down the hill.
I was going to warn you about those trouser snakes up there, but at those temperatures, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.
    Bert.

Harrison Emilie and I are so proud of you all !!! Dwighty my love, you have achieved something so special that all future ‘issues’ that life throws at you will be measured by what you CAN DO when you set your mind on it. Nothing else is important! Enjoy the feeling of self pride, joy and positive energy you have in your heart now, and try to store some of that away for a rainy day to draw upon. You are amazing, as are your new close friends up on that Mountain with you. You have a Bond with these ‘brothers’ now! So special! Love you and can’t wait to hug you. Come down the ‘hill’ safely! Love, your Haze xxx

Anthony if you feel like going crabbing under the Moreton Bay sun when you get home give me a call. You could get rid of the shirt, turn on the GG’s and rip ito an icy (sorry) cold beer. What an exciting time it’s been. A great result. Take it easy. Regards Biddo.

GOOD JOB DAD!!! I’m so proud of you. You’ve done something big and I can only wish you the best. I am here, complaining about 30 degree days and cross country training, then I imagine being you, blizzards, steep walks, freezing -30 degrees, long walks-It out it all in perspective and I run harder. I mean, how many kids can say that their dad has done what you’ve done. I can’t wait to see the photos. miss you much. Love, M

Hello, all the way from Australia down at 6ft tall! You have all done what you have set out to achieve! You have reached the top of the mountain (literary!) and now your on the way down, the hardest part is all over. In saying that, it has being a hard one to climb (in fact one of the biggest ones in the world!), but you all fought against the lack of air and -30 degree temperature. I speak for all of us in saying you have done what none of us here could of; all of that training wasn’t in vain. This is truly T-shirt material “I Conquered Everest”….From Harrison

    Hi Blair
Your Great Uncle Eric and Aunty Val who are both 91yrs have been following your blog and Uncle Eric phoned the other night when he read on your blog that you had reached the everest base camp to pass on his congratulations to you – Uncle Eric knew Sir Edmond Hillary and his brother and went to school with Sir Ed and often used to see him in Papakura, so he has been interested in what you have been doing he also said that the height you climbed to was one and a half times the height of Mt Cook in the south island NZ and to me that put things more in perspective as I have seen mt cook – wow it is certainly very high
    love ma XXX
