Not Long Now… Our Final Meeting @ World Expeditions
Houston We Have A Problem!
Last Wednesday we picked up our final tickets and last instructions from World Expeditions. Amanda who has been our local contact and has arranged all our special needs from arranging our individual itinerary to organising Sherpa Bob (our personal massage Sherpa) gave us the final run down. We have our local Kathmandu fixer picking us up at the airport and delivering us to our overnight hotel then introducing us to our Head Sherpa for the trek. At this stage we will get our last-minute instructions and be given our packs for the trip which we will then transfer our own gear into for the Porters to carry on the trek. It’s then a good nights sleep before we jump on the small plane for the 45min flight to Lukla. However… we may have one small problem. I reported a few weeks ago on the weather at EBC and we were hoping that it would start to warm up but to our disappointment it hasn’t worked out like that. After speaking with Amanda and a quick call from her to the crew in Kathmandu it looks like we’re in for a very cold trip to the top of the world. The daily temps in Kathmandu seem to be quite comfortable at lows of 5 to 7c and highs of 16 to 21c so all good there, however, when we get into the Himalayas the temps dramatically drop. At the lower areas of Lukla and Namche Bazzar the lows will be around -5c and highs at 5c to 7c but when we hit the heights of 4000 mtrs and above we are looking at lows of -10c to -20c and highs of -5c to zero. These temps are certainly a bit better than they were a few weeks ago but a lot colder than we were expecting so we have all had a good look at our gear and are currently double checking that we all have the correct equipment for the job at hand. So apart from the weather all’s looking good and we’re all keen to get the ball rolling and get our feet on the track. We have just over a week left to finish off the training before we taper off… as we get to the last few days I’ll keep everyone updated on our progress and any last-minute changes that may occur.
Cheers Mike

Hey Gaz/’Giz’. It’s all coming down to the wire now. Remember, keep focused on the objective, and keep your eyes raised up to the ultimate prize. When the going gets tough the Werts keep going! Know that you make the ‘old man’ very proud.
And best wishes to all the Rockstars. May you each conquer your particular adversaries and reach the ultimate goal.
Not forgetting the partners and families left behind who have made sacrifices to get you all to the point of take-off, and who will be anxiously supporting and waiting for news.
And a big thanks to ‘Dog’ for dreaming the dream, and sharing it and inspiring you all.
My very best wishes to each and every one of you. Vaya con Dios!
